The Here to Help Childcare Worker is a part of a team that works together to help families heal from the impact of intimate partner abuse. Working with infants and children up to four years of age, the childcare worker is responsible for the implementation of a group program in a multi-age setting that is designed to enhance the social, emotional physical and cognitive development of the children in their care.


ABOUT HERE TO HELP

YWCA Toronto Help to Help is a free 12-week program in south Scarborough for Children 4-16 years of age and their mothers/gender diverse parents who have been exposed to abuse. We support participants through the healing process. This program offers a comfortable, compassionate, safe place for children to learn they are not alone This program offers to mothers/caregivers’ information on how children may be impacted by their exposure to abuse and provides support on how to support their children’s emotional healing
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works as part of a team with program staff and volunteers to provide an integrated program that enhances the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children;
  • Implements a program geared to the needs of the children with concerns for their interests, special needs, strengths and pace of learning;
  • Works with the children in a group while maintaining sensitivity to each child’s individual needs;
  • Communicates with parents/ Program Coordinator on a regular basis concerning the children
  • Ensures that the Health and Safety Guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the funders and YWCA Toronto;
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining an orderly and tidy Centre, clean equipment and tidy cupboards
  • Ensures that the Centre is set up appropriately for children’s activities

QUALIFICATION

  • An Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate or recognized equivalent an asset (high school completion required)
  • 1-3 years’ experience with children ages 0 to 6
  • Skills and flexibility to work with various age groupings from 0 to 6 years
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, theory and practice
  • Experience working within a multicultural environment
  • Second language an asset
