The Employment & Business Advisor and Trainer is responsible for assisting unemployed and underemployed individuals with their career, employment and training goals, such as training, placement, testing, recruitment and job linking services. This role also involves guiding individuals interested in self-employment through entrepreneurship and business development support, offering coaching, resources, and mentorship to help them pursue entrepreneurial pathways as viable career options. They are required to maintain an effective working relationship with the team and the extended community in accordance with the Mission and Policies of YWCA Toronto and any funding agreements.

ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – SDC, ETI & MOTS
Skills Development Centre provides vocational and non-vocational strength-based programs, and offers a wide range of products and services both locally and nationally to individuals and organizations. Products and services can be purchased and/or are free (fully sponsored or subsidized). YWCA Toronto’s Education and Training Institute is a vocational college registered with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities offering two certified programs: Professional Office Administration Certificate and Professional Office Administration Diploma. Moving On To Success is an employment training program for low income women and gender diverse people, some of whom may experience domestic violence or who are at risk of abuse.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with the teams to coordinate intake for SDC and MOTS and supports the work in putting together groups and following up with clients where necessary
  • Coordinates, facilitates and delivers workshops and training for SDC and MOTS and works collaboratively with other facilitators
  • Specializes and delivers entrepreneurial and leadership training with a focus on business start-up, financial forecasting and project management
  • Assists clients in preparing grant applications and letters of intent for funding opportunities
  • Responsible for processing program and client file documentation including using CTS (Client Tracking Systems), Salesforce and/or SharePoint
  • Meets with clients and employers to assess suitability to programs, placement and training needs and makes appropriate referrals
  • Works closely with community partners, businesses and clients' workers to offer a client-centred program adhering to the YWCA and funders’ business practices
  • Gathers and maintains information on community resources and training opportunities. Develops systems and protocols for programs which includes registration, intake, evaluations and monitoring of client plans
  • Works with the staff team to co-ordinate intake, wait lists and follow-up case management and completion of action plans
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of month end reports
  • Identifies, administers, scores and interprets relevant vocational tests for participants based on clients' individual/specialized needs
  • Organizes mentoring, educational, and networking events, as well as ceremonies, both on-site and within the community
  • Uses sound judgement in employment counselling and referral coordination
  • Administers the training and financial supports for SDC and MOTS clients including handling cash and cash equivalent for transportation and training allowances
  • Monitors, analyzes and tracks all training and personal allowances for clients including reports to the Business and Finance Administrator and Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree (examples: Adult Education, Business, Career and Work Counselling Program, Social Sciences or equivalent)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in related field
  • Group Facilitation and Life Skills training mandatory
  • Experience in economic development or entrepreneurship/business start-up
  • Ability to analyze the financial and economic stakes of the files
  • Conflict resolution training and experience
  • Computer Training Certification an asset
  • Strong knowledge of the employment sector programs
  • Level B testing required
  • Ability to operate in an environment that has minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and critical analysis are required
  • Ability to use good judgement when dealing with participant issues and challenging situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure; ability to adapt to program change when required
  • Commitment to work with diverse groups
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software e.g. MS Office 365 Full Suite, on-line course facilitation (MS Teams and/or Zoom), databases, word processing; job search tools a must
  • Ability to communicate in French is an asset
